October 23rd, 2014 at Sonic Fuel Studios - by Peter Hackman, Fans of Film Music Founder
What do True Blood, The Evil Dead, A Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream have in common? The composers behind these legendary scores, Nathan Barr, Joseph LoDuca, Charles Bernstein and Marco Beltrami were at the Golden State Pops Orchestra’s 1st Annual Anatomy of a Horror Score Fundraiser on October 23rd at Sonic Fuel Studios. Also on hand was the creator of the popular Child’s Play franchise, Don Mancini.
As a huge fan of The GSPO, it was an honor to attend this wondrous and spooky event right before Halloween. Though these fine gentlemen have created some of the most terrify music for movies and Television, collectively they are some of the nicest, kindest guys you could ever hope to meet.
As a lifelong fan of film music, attending an event such as this is thrilling and even more thrilling was the fact that the location was Sonic Fuel Studios, which is owned by composers Christopher Lennertz (Ride Along, Supernatural, Horrible Bosses etc.) and Timothy Michael Wynn (The Simpsons Game, Madden NFL 25, James Dean Forever Young etc.).
The evening started with a casual meet and greet in the lobby with guests being allowed to look around the studio and talk to the composers and Don Mancini. Delicious food and yummy drinks helped make the evening even better. Notable guests included agent Richard Kraft, longtime supporter of the GSPO Henry Stanny and composers Edwin Wendler and Jack Alloco among others. It was great to see old friends and to support the GSPO for all that they do. After the mingling the panel discussion started with Steven Allen Fox hosting. It was a great panel and for someone who knows a lot of film music, in particular the panelist film music, I still learned new things about them and their process of making music.
All in all, it was a wonderful night and it was great to get some one on one time with some of my favorite film and Television composers. Thank you so much Sonic Fuel Studios, the composers who participated, Don Mancini, Steven Allen Fox, Inga Funck and so many others for a magical night!
