The Golden State Pops Orchestra is disappointed to announce that due to financial difficulties there will not be a Holiday POPS Spectacular this year. The Holiday POPS Spectacular has been in existence since GSPO’s inception in 2002 and has become a tradition for many SoCal residents. Over the years many A-list composers have graced the GSPO stage with their presence and music, adding to the experience. For the first time GSPO will have to forego the concert, as they work to pay down a debt that grew over the past couple of seasons. Founder and Conductor, Steven Allen Fox, stated, “for me the Holiday POPS Spectacular has always been one of the highlights not only of our annual schedule, but my families holiday season. I am honored it has also become an important part of many people’s holiday traditions, and deeply apologize that we have had to make this difficult decision. It is our goal to bring it back bigger and better than before in the future.”
Unfortunately GSPO has experienced difficult times with a handful of shows that created financial stress for the organization. Currently the Board is working to expand their Board of Director membership with people passionate about family friendly concert experiences focused on promoting and supporting great media music, in the film capital of the world, Los Angeles. In addition, they are working to become even more relevant in an ever growing industry of live film music. GSPO was one of the first orchestras to present unique and innovative concerts of film music, playing a vital role as a forerunner of great film music as a viable concert art form. Now with so many orchestras programming these concerts, carrying budgets that allow for high production value and film projection, GSPO is working to further it’s reach and capabilities.
